How to be a Hunter (Blog Azeroth Secret Santa)

Friday, December 25th, 2009

As he mentions, I participated in the Blog Azeroth Secret Santa this year, and this is the gift I got from Deyndor from Swift Retribution.  I found it very… educational.  Hope you do to!  Enjoy!

Hello faithful readers of Mend Pet!

There is a fun little thing going on this holiday season called Miss Saresa’s Secret Santa, where various Blog Azeroth bloggers write posts for each other, and no one knows who gets who until the post arrives.  Fun right?  Well, I got Brajana as the person that I’m posting for, so you’re stuck with me.

Wait!  Don’t leave yet, I have secret hunter tips to share with you!  These are things that I bet Brajana doesn’t even know about.  So without further ado, let me introduce you to my hunter, Crikey.  Wave to the nice people Crikey.

Now let me first tell you, your spec should look something like this.  Some of you may think that looks wrong, but trust me, it isn’t.

The first thing you want to remember is that you are a hunter, a master of your surroundings, there is nothing that you can’t do.  So you should go get yourself a couple of good swords or daggers with a lot of int and SP on them.  The more int you have, the less time you’ll need to spend in viper.  As for the SP, you want to be stacking this so your Mend Pet and (if you’re a Draenei like me) Gift of the Naaru will be more powerful.  This way, your pet will stay up longer and you won’t need to bother the healer with little things like heals (cause you have plenty of bandages for yourself, right?).

Next, when initiating a pull, you want to put on Aspect of the Cheetah and run in front of the tank and start hitting.  Because with the build that I laid out, your best option is melee.  This build will easily put you 1k DPS ahead of anyone else you’re raiding with, especially those lazy ranged hunters in the raid.

I’d like to note at this point that people may start asking you what you’re doing running ahead of the tank and hitting the mob first.  This is just because they don’t know the intricacies of the hunter class like I do.  Once they see the numbers you’re putting out and how easy/quick runs are, they’ll stop questioning it.  Besides, if the tank can’t pull aggro off you, they shouldn’t be tanking.

There is no real rotation for this spec, just keep hitting whatever melee attacks you have that are off CD.  You should always be doing something.  And remember, if the tank dies or is stunned, even though you’re built for melee at this point, you can’t always handle the hits from some bosses, be sure to use Feign Death to get the mob off you.  If it goes on to the healer, maybe they shouldn’t be pulling that much aggro.  Be sure to tell them that, but in a constructive way (no one likes a snotty party member).

If you follow what I’ve laid out here, you’re sure to be topping the charts and be the star of every group your in.  Using this info, I was able to get Crikey up to level 26, and be so good that groups have actually kicked me because they weren’t worthy of running with a player as great as I.

So if you ever find yourself in a group with Crikey from the Borean Tundra server, don’t be surprised if I out DPS you and pull before the tank.  Its all part of my plan.

Happy Winter Veil to everyone, I hope you get everything you want from Greatfather Winter!

The Season of Giving

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

I love Christmas time!

One of the things I love the most about it is being able to buy and make gifts for the people I care about, to show them how much they are appreciated throughout the whole year.

And so this year, I decided I’d spread a little love to my budding new guild – Razorblade Arcade.  But what could I do?  I knew I didn’t have time to come up with a special guild event.  Instead, I decided to go the simple route of buying some gifts for every member of the guild.

I would have loved to customize them more, but in the end there was really only one custom component to each gift package.  Here were the contents:

  • 1x[Epic Gem]: I did a be.imba check on my guild and determined which gem was most used by each raider and got one of those cut for each person.
  • 1x[Frost Lotus]: Something everyone needs, especially as we begin progressing through a new raid dungeon!
  • 1x[Paper Zeppelin Kit]: 5 charges of zeppelins sure to keep raiders entertained while listening to those boring boss strategies.
  • 5x[Heavy/Trusty/Zippy Copper Racer]: Because it’s just not Christmas without toy cars!

This was all put together and sent off with a letter from my “anonymous” Orc named “Bladeaclaus” who wished everyone a Happy Winter Veil with a “Ho-ho-ho’ktar ogar!” (Oh, the cleverness of me!)

I even put together a little package for our 1 sub-80 guildie, a 76ish Hunter.  His package included custom-built [Giantmaim Bracers], a [Bright Scarlet Ruby], a [Tickbird Hatchling] and a good ol’ [Heavy Leather Ball].

Sure, it cost me over 2400g to put everything together, and left me with less than 1000g to my name, but I really have no real need for the gold, so I might as well spread the wealth, right?

I hope everyone enjoyed the little surprises in their mailboxes!

And I hope everyone else is having a great time with 3.3 and Winter Veil while I live vicariously through you whilst I study.

Reminder: My Guide To Merrymaking!

Monday, December 14th, 2009

In the spirit of shameless self-promotion, I thought I’d throw a link out to my achievement guide from last year: A Guide to Merrymaking!

Winter Veil starts tomorrow, and if you’re working on your [Merrymaker] meta-achievement, you might find some help from there.  I’ve updated it to reflect the 3.3 changes and everything!

Happy Hunting, and Merry Winter Veil!

A Quick Brewfest Token-saving Tip!

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Just a quick tip that some people may not know about. If you’re worried about getting enough tokens to afford the clothes, Brew of the Month Club, and the other fun little things you’d like, there is a way to save some tokens!

You can return anything purchased from the token vendor for a FULL REFUND within 2 hours of purchasing!

The key here is to save up enough to buy all 3 clothing items at once, go get smashed and dance in Dalaran, then head back and return them.

Voilà! You just saved 350 tokens.

The Many Mugs of ‘Brewmaster Brajana’!

Monday, September 21st, 2009

I’ve already got the title, yes I do!  You know how?  Because I actually worked on them last year, when Achievements were brand spankin’ new, and Wrath wasn’t even on shelves yet.

Why?  Because I love Brewfest!  I think it’s a great event, and always lots of fun.

I’ve built up quite a collection of paraphernalia as well, I might add…

My Wolpertinger, who joined my array of pets back in the very first Brewfest.

My Pint-sized Pink Elekk, newly added companion!

And of course, my ever-growing collection of beer steins… currently consisting of:

I’ve yet to acquire this year’s new charms, and still waiting on the Brewfest Kodo!  (I’ve got the Ram from the first year, when it was super easy to get… muahaha)

Hope you are all going out and getting drunk during this great festival!  CHEERS!
