Highlights from the Blogosphere (8/21-8/27)

Friday, August 28th, 2009

It’s been a while since I did one of these posts! I’ve been having trouble keeping up with my Google Reader lately, but this last week has had some particularly great posts pass through, so I thought it would be a good time to get back into it!

Character Exercises (Part 1) @ Warpriestess
These are some great exercises to help you develop your character’s background and personality.  I’m thinking about filling them out here, I haven’t done any RP in a long time!

WoW is the Most Complicated Game Ever @ Critical QQ
Before reading this, I was against all the people arguing that Blizzard is simplifying too much, because I am sick of all the mathiness.  But Euripedes has a good point, it’s not that complicated… the people who enjoy the mathiness have done all the work for us, anyway.

Ah, what I’d give to be a newbie again… @ /Faulsey
Faulsey reminises about how exciting it is to see things in the game for the first time, leveling your first character when everything was still new.

How to be a Good Raiding Grunt @ The Angry Butterfly
Some basic raiding tips that some people STILL need to be reminded of.  DON’T ARGUE DURING RAIDS! Please!

The Kalimdor of my Heart @ The Angry Butterfly
Neglethe goes on a journey through the Kalimdor we all know, to remember it for what it is before it all goes *BOOM*.

Raiding as Fire/Frostfire @ CriticalQQ
As Alouette closes in on 80, she’s beginning to set her eye on raiding… but seeing as I have never run a real instance on her, I need serious help learning what’s important to a raiding Fire mage.  Euripedes has some great information for a little spark like me.

Don’t Let Dailies Grind YOU! @ LadyJess
One amazing tip here.  I love that doing the Champion and Valiant dailies nets me credit for two quests at once.  Well, you can do more than just that!

Kiting Boot-camp! @ OutDPS!
Euripides (the Hunter one, not the Mage one) has a nice little guide for a skill that every hunter should have, although it’s become almost a lost art!  This is a great guide for those who never had to do much kiting ‘back in the day’!

iPhone Apps for WoW Players @ Catryalini’s WoW Blog
I bought an iPhone this week!  In fact, the same day I bought mine she wrote this post, so it gave me a good place to start on my path to iPhone App addiction.  Unfortunately, it seems Blizzard has also sent out Cease and Desist orders to several of these apps… so pick them up while they’re still around!

Death By Chocolate @ Sideshow & Syrana
Syrana’s posted a nice little summary of both the good and bad sides of the Noblegarden festival, as well as a short guide.  I know the event is almost over, but it’s a good read anyway!

Highlights from the Blogosphere (04/10-04/23)

Friday, April 24th, 2009

This one is spanning two weeks because I didn’t bother with one last week.  I’m going to focus on great 3.1 guide posts, mainly Argent Tournament and Ulduar!

The Argent Tournament Tourist Guide @ Banana Shoulders
Siha has a 3 part (only 2 parts are published so far) series explaining the ins and outs of the Argent Tournament.  It certainly helped me when I found myself lost and getting my Aspirant butt kicked!

Healing Ulduar @ World of Matticus
They’ve posted up a few very helpful boss-specific guides to healing at WoM, as well as overall strategies.

Ulduar Boss Fight Videos @ The Angry Butterfly and Less QQ, More PewPew
Neg and Dro have both posted up videos of their boss fights so far in Ulduar.  I haven’t watched them all yet, but I really prefer to watch videos instead of just reading strategies.  I tend to forget what I read, but videos help to really understand what’s going on and answer more questions.

Highlights from the Blogosphere (4/03 – 4/09)

Eyes of the Beast: What Your Pet is Really Thinking @ Aspect of the Hare
Pike’s dear friend Wash recounts his ludic thoughts on a trip through Naxxramas.  It’s like RP for pets!

Hunter Gear from Ulduar and Patch 3.1 @ The Hunter’s Mark
Lassirra gives a great over view of what we’ve got to look forward to come Ulduar.  Start planning your gear lists now!

Hunter Discussion #2 @ Diaries of a Marksman Hunter
I joined up with Nassira and Drotara (Less QQ, More PewPew) to have a productive discussion about our progress on Sarth with 3 drakes up.  Drotara bestows some great advice on us, and you might find it useful.  I haven’t listened to the podcast yet, but I’ve been told I was too loud.  Sorry!

10 Ways to Make Your GM Love You @ Wordy Warrior
This doesn’t just apply to GMs!  If everyone followed these tips, it’d make things so much easier for everyone.  Shared this with my guild in hopes to encourage this kinda thing more!

Class Mechanics – Hunter Racials @ The Hunting Lodge
A nice look at how each race’s abilities impacts the life of a Hunter.  I never choose my race based on racials, I always go for looks and what I’m feeling like… but there are clearly more benefits to rolling some races than others.  (looks like I chose pretty well!)

WoW PvP Should Be More Like This @ Frost is the New Black
This was actually posted last week, but I didn’t get around to reading it til Friday!  Anyway… this is a great ‘new’ type of PvP… I would totally PvP if it worked this way.  And ShamWOW is a very clever Shaman name.

When to Heal the DPS @ Duct Tape and a Prayer
I love flowcharts.  This one is a simple one, but I wish more people would follow it!  Unfortunately it’ll take you a little longer than one GCD to read it. :)

An Item for BRK @ The Incredible Noobiewan
Noobiewan predicts/suggests a tribute item for BRK much like the one for Phaelia from Resto4Life.  The B.R.K. Hunter Guide trinket!  Complete with hit rating and increased pet damage!

O Game of Mine @ Diaries of a Marksman Hunter
I feel like this is coming directly from me – I completely share Nass’s opinion on the balance of life and game, and the fact that the game isn’t as much to blame as people think.  Great read!
