How to be a Hunter (Blog Azeroth Secret Santa)

December 25th, 2009

As he mentions, I participated in the Blog Azeroth Secret Santa this year, and this is the gift I got from Deyndor from Swift Retribution.  I found it very… educational.  Hope you do to!  Enjoy!

Hello faithful readers of Mend Pet!

There is a fun little thing going on this holiday season called Miss Saresa’s Secret Santa, where various Blog Azeroth bloggers write posts for each other, and no one knows who gets who until the post arrives.  Fun right?  Well, I got Brajana as the person that I’m posting for, so you’re stuck with me.

Wait!  Don’t leave yet, I have secret hunter tips to share with you!  These are things that I bet Brajana doesn’t even know about.  So without further ado, let me introduce you to my hunter, Crikey.  Wave to the nice people Crikey.

 Crikey

Now let me first tell you, your spec should look something like this.  Some of you may think that looks wrong, but trust me, it isn’t.

The first thing you want to remember is that you are a hunter, a master of your surroundings, there is nothing that you can’t do.  So you should go get yourself a couple of good swords or daggers with a lot of int and SP on them.  The more int you have, the less time you’ll need to spend in viper.  As for the SP, you want to be stacking this so your Mend Pet and (if you’re a Draenei like me) Gift of the Naaru will be more powerful.  This way, your pet will stay up longer and you won’t need to bother the healer with little things like heals (cause you have plenty of bandages for yourself, right?).

Next, when initiating a pull, you want to put on Aspect of the Cheetah and run in front of the tank and start hitting.  Because with the build that I laid out, your best option is melee.  This build will easily put you 1k DPS ahead of anyone else you’re raiding with, especially those lazy ranged hunters in the raid.

I’d like to note at this point that people may start asking you what you’re doing running ahead of the tank and hitting the mob first.  This is just because they don’t know the intricacies of the hunter class like I do.  Once they see the numbers you’re putting out and how easy/quick runs are, they’ll stop questioning it.  Besides, if the tank can’t pull aggro off you, they shouldn’t be tanking.

There is no real rotation for this spec, just keep hitting whatever melee attacks you have that are off CD.  You should always be doing something.  And remember, if the tank dies or is stunned, even though you’re built for melee at this point, you can’t always handle the hits from some bosses, be sure to use Feign Death to get the mob off you.  If it goes on to the healer, maybe they shouldn’t be pulling that much aggro.  Be sure to tell them that, but in a constructive way (no one likes a snotty party member).

If you follow what I’ve laid out here, you’re sure to be topping the charts and be the star of every group your in.  Using this info, I was able to get Crikey up to level 26, and be so good that groups have actually kicked me because they weren’t worthy of running with a player as great as I.

So if you ever find yourself in a group with Crikey from the Borean Tundra server, don’t be surprised if I out DPS you and pull before the tank.  Its all part of my plan.

Happy Winter Veil to everyone, I hope you get everything you want from Greatfather Winter!
