Pre-raid Gear List for Anti-social Ret Paladins

World of Warcraft Paladin

Disclaimer: This post was accurate as of patch 3.1.3.

Quite a long time ago, I wrote a post for Hunters similar to this.  Well, I find myself in a similar situation once again:  Hoping to upgrade my gear, but not always able to run heroics, and certainly not a big fan of relying on random drops.

So here’s a list for fledgling Retribution Paladins who would like to upgrade their quested greenies without having to depend on groups or the dreaded RNG!

Note: This list doesn’t include any items that require a specific profession to be equipped, such as Engineering helms, Jewelcrafting trinkets or Blacksmith weapons.  If you have a crafting profession, be sure to check your profession trainer to see what you can make!

(See the list after the break!)

Unemployed Wants YOU!

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

That’s right, we’re recruiting!  The summer has had a certain effect on us, and we’d like to bolster our numbers so we can get back in and finish off Yogg on 25-man!

<Unemployed> is a progression-oriented Horde guild on the Hydraxis-US PvE server.  We’re an 18+ guild and are looking for mature players who like things being pretty organized and work to improve themselves, and of course enjoy raiding and having fun!

Specifically, we’re hoping to pick up:

  • Resto Shaman
  • Resto Druid
  • DPS Death Knight
  • Destro Lock

We’re also interested in other roles and classes (such as Hunter, DPS Warrior, Holy Paladin, and always Rogues), you can see more information in our Recruitment Needs post.

Our raiding schedule is Tues-Thurs, 6:30-10:00PM (CST).  We’re working on Vezax right now, but he’s sure to go down quickly once we can regain the numbers to take another swing at him.

If you’re interested, make sure to head over and check out our guild charter and policies and fill out an application!  You can also talk to any officer (me included) or GM in-game for more info.

Of course server transfers are welcome, I transferred to Hydraxis to join Unemployed over 2 years ago, and have never looked back!

Ghugh’s Heroic Adventures

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Well, I’m almost recovered from my wisdom tooth extraction!  It’s been five days, but I learned this morning that it’s still not safe to eat mini-wheats.  So I continue on my pudding and mashed potatoes diet until further notice!

I spent the last 4 days at home sitting around… playing my paladin.  Almost exclusively.  Boy oh boy, do I love playing retribution! <3

Ghugh got to run half a dozen or so Heroics, and even managed to get in on a PUG OS10 run.  He started off Thursday morning with mostly quest blues and greens, and now he’s only 1 item away from his [Superior] achievement – his Libram, which probably won’t be replaced til Naxx.

"So what're you in for?"

"So... what're you in for?"

I’ve also decided to spoil this kid rotten with BoE epics when I get the chance.  He’s already sporting [Spiked Titansteel Helm], [Ice Striker's Cloak], [Titansteel Destroyer] and I even spent a solid 1.5k gold on [Wristbands of the Sentinel Huntress].

Between PUGs, he’s been finishing up some questing… and I have learned how much I hate Icecrown quests.  HATE.  Some of them sound neat in concept, but they fail to mention if you don’t do it just right, YOU’RE GONNA DIE! Grrr.  And all those group quests?  Yeah, screw that.

I must admit I haven’t even logged onto Hydraxis since Tuesday’s raid… it’s been a nice break.  It’s also been interesting to see the differences in each class.  It’s great to be able to heal myself, and I feel more valuable to be able to cure diseases or whatever (you know, click the little decursive buttons when it yells at me!)  But I have yet to master the art of GTFO of Whirlwind.  Sigh.

Remember the days when there was only one non-PvP title?  “Scarab Lord”?  If you saw someone riding by with that title, you stopped and looked.  The PvP titles were neat too, but didn’t hold much meaning.

Then they brought in a couple more with Burning Crusade… “Champion of the Naaru” and “Hand of A’dal”.  Eventually you could get “of the Shattered Sun” if you had some spare cash.  They were quite a bit more common, but it still made you feel a bit special.

With the achievement system the way it is now, we’re more surprised to see someone running around without a title than with one.  Anyone who has had even passing interest in achievements has upwards of 10 titles to switch through as they see fit.

I think it adds a bit of depth to each character – by seeing someone’s title, you can guess what their playstyle or in-game interests might be.  Someone with the title “Jenkins” makes me think they just love messing around and having fun with the game.  When I see a “Twilight Vanquisher” I feel like I’m in the presence of a doughty fighter.  Is it wrong to judge people by their title?

Anyway, what brought this line of though on was that as of last night, Ghugh is no longer just Ghugh!  He is now…

Ghugh of Ironforge! (Complete with spikey hat)

Ghugh of Ironforge! (Complete with spikey hat)

I think this is a fitting first title for most characters.  And as you progress and gain more experiences, you come to be known for more interesting things than just your origin.

What do you think?  Is there a reason you favour some titles over others?

Sorry it’s been a bit quiet around here lately other than “Need More Stable Slots” stuff (GO DONATE), but I’ve been quite busy at work, and it’s going to continue to be quiet just a few more days – I’m having a wisdom tooth removed tomorrow!

So I’ll be back when I’ve recovered and gotten sick of eating pudding and milkshakes.  Is that even possible?
