[nodead] is supposed to imply [exists] (it has to exist in order to be alive/dead), but unless I’m pressed for space in my macros, I usually use [exists,nodead] as well.

Another thing I noticed, is that your macro won’t actually move onto casting Misdirection on your target. It will check for focus (exists,nodead), then pet (exists,nodead). If both of those are false, it won’t cast.

/cast [target=focus,exists,nodead][target=pet,exists,nodead][]Misdirection

Note the extra ‘[]‘ at the end. That will cast on your target if necessary.

Yep, you’re certainly right. That’s what I get for not double checking my macro before posting Fixed.

Actually, it does not, which is a pain in the ass. I’d use both exists and nodead, myself.

I’m not sure [exists] implies [nodead]. Meaning that if you have a focus set, but they’re dead, your macro won’t move onto casting Misdirection onto your pet.

/cast [target=focus,nodead][target=pet,nodead]Misdirection

Might work better.

@Nass – That’s true Nass, I’ve never done it that way It depends on your playstyle, I suppose! I prefer to have my focus set ahead of time so I can misdirect quickly without selecting my target. But it does take about the same or a little more time to set my focus and then misdirect to them as it would to hit MD then use the blue-hand.

For me, it doesn’t take that long to hit Ctrl+f then Ctrl+2 to change my focus and cast MD, and then I can continue to cast MD on that target without having to look for their raid frame.

@Watermist: The only issue with starting that way is you’ve got to watch out for your auto-shots getting in before your Chimera shot gets off. 1 Serpent tick + 1 auto-shot + 1 Chimera might not do as much threat as Aimed + Auto + Arcane or something.

@Gordal: I don’t really use Survival, but this is just what I’ve been told by other Survival Hunters. Explosive Shot also activates Auto-shot so you will probably only get 2 Explosive hits and an auto-shot at best, unless you can cancel auto quickly enough.

@Neggles: That is a great idea A couple of us use SimpleMD which does announce in party (all hunters are usually in the same group) and also keeps track of other Hunters’ MDs. But a simple macro works as well!

Oh also (sorry for the double post), there are many times during which the tank dies and another tank needs to gain aggro – using the focus macro requires you to set your focus first, then MD, which can waste precious time.

Personally, I think all raiders, no matter what raid role, should have full Raid frames so they’re aware of what’s happening to everyone at all times.

Hmmm…

You can Misdirect without changing targets, even without the macro. Just target the Boss, hit your MD key and select (with the blue hand) the person you want to MD to. I find that relying on a Focus target leaves more room for error.

But most people disagree with me. lol
