Three-point-one: The Morning After

April 15th, 2009

It was a long day yesterday, waiting for the servers to come up.  I didn’t mind it too much – Blizzard did a much better job of keeping the public informed, and that’s all I ask.  Even if they were just copying and pasting the same message and changing the time… at least we knew we could stop checking for another hour, instead of continually refreshing, letting the anticipationg get to us!

Hydraxis finally came up at about 9PM EST.  I got two achievements upon logging in – Fool for Love and Brew of the Month!  That was nice.

I did all the things on my to-do list, and then headed out to the Argent Tournament.  It took me forever to figure out where to find the people I had to get advice from for Master of Melee and it’s partner quests.  And those goblin quests?  Yeah, that’s not going to happen.  Do they give anything other than gold?  Because if they don’t, I’d much rather just do something that doesn’t involve me flying all over the map (such as my Hodir dailies!)

One of the dailies for the Argent Tournament was something about a sword.  I had to pick some flowers in Crystalsong and then go to a lake in Grizzly Hills.  I find it a bit annoying that you actually have to jump in the middle of the lake and then swim all the way back out – shoulda used a water-walking potion!  Had the same quest again this morning.  At least I only have 1 more day of these dailies to do!

I didn’t really test out my spec much, other than while I was grinding.  But generally, things seem to be dying faster.  Hopefully tonight I can spend some time with a target dummy.  I still need to pick up Glyph of Chimera Shot… anyone know where I can find it?  I’ve been told the recipe is a world drop.  That’s lame.  Maybe I’ll just get Aimed Shot while I wait for someone to find it.

It’s driving me crazy that WoWhead is broken.

We should be heading into Ulduar tonight – I’m excited!  I’ve been told by a few people that I should pick up Silencing Shot for the fights, and I believe them… but I don’t want to respec again already.  I’ll see how this week goes and then maybe change something around next week.

OH!  And is it just me, or was the Kill Shot being put on the GCD not in the patch notes?  I was so confused when my macros didn’t work.  Hrmph!  One more keybinding to add, I guess!

  1. You’re right about the Kill Shot change not being in the official notes.

I saw mention of it early on while doing some theorycrafting, so I never bothered to actually look for it in the notes.

  2. The glyph is “potentially” a world drop, but it can also be found through the daily research.

The problem with glyphs now is the same problem we’ve had forever – it’s all learned randomly after a certain point, and it’s all on a 20 hour cooldown.

It’s my biggest point of frustration, and the one thing that I hate about the profession. I kind of treat my professions in game like I do my real one. If I have a product I want to offer, then I don’t want to provide some half-done, near worthless service that I have no control over. It’s like running a used car lot but not having any inventory, instead selling whatever rolls into the lot that day.

The one good side of it is that you do have the potential (for a while) to be the only source of that item in the entire realm, or even if other people do have it, the only person online at the time.

  3. Yay Brajana!! We’re Love Fools!! All that frustration and utter disappointment over a few pieces of candy are in the past. That was the first thing I noticed when i first logged in. And you know what? I am wearing the title right now just because, even though i really dont like it.

Anyways, I hear your frustrations with the Glyphs. I was trying to find someone to make Chimera and Trueshot Glyphs for awhile before a guildy finally told me that no one probably has them yet. /cry
I will also be using Aimed Shot Glyph for now.

We are also starting Uluar tonight, pretty excited.

Question, what rotation are you using now with new patch? I ran H UP with some guildies, to practice out new rotations. I was using Serpent Sting -> Chimera -> Aimed Shot -> Steadies as fillers -> repeat. It seemed to work very well. Though it felt wrong not including Arcane shot in rotation. It seems the argument has come up again, Arcane vs. Aimed. I’m looking foward to yours and Nassira’s theorycrafting on this. I will conduct my own personal test too, but you guys rock on your research.

  4. Inscription seems like such a random profession, I don’t know if I could handle it personally. See, as leatherworker/skinner, the closest I get to random is picking up the occasional dragonscale or Arctic Fur!

  5. Korixys: Grats on Love Fool! :) I actually found about a dozen Trueshot Aura glyphs on the AH last night for 8-10 gold each. I picked one up!

Right now, I am using the same as I was before, but I’m favouring Aimed over Arcane, so it looks like this:
    Serpent > Chimera > Aimed > Arcane > Steady.

However, there’s a good chance I’ll switch out Arcane completely and just go with Steady. And I’d also move my 3 points from Imp Arcane to Imp Steady. The problem with Arcane is that it isn’t part of the bleed effect.

I’m going to have to do some testing though, I might respec tonight to test some things out.

  6. I couldnt find any good glyphs on my AH, not even any Aimed Shot Glyphs, luckily a friend mailed me one.

Yeah, I want to try 3 different rotations. Aimed shot only, arcane and aimed together, and an arcane shot only rotation.

I’m hoping to remove arcane from rotation also, thus freeing up 3 points from Imp Arcane. I went pretty heavy into MM yesterday. My spec is kind of sloppy caused I rushed it in order to get our H UP run started. I plan on moving a bunch of points around tonight before I head into Ulduar.

  7. Hey Braj, ran a few tests when i got home. Right now i’m wearing glyph serpent sting, aimed shot, and trueshot. Each test lasted until first oom, using no regen abilities

    Test 1: Arcane only
2298 DPS 1 min 25 sec until oom

    Test 2: Aimed only
2100 DPS 1 min 20 sec until oom

    Test 3: Arcane and Aimed
    2400 DPS 1 min 11 sec

This i find pretty interesting. What you think?

  8. Hey Korixys, I was about to write a giant reply, but instead I’ll just write a new post. :) Stay tuned!
